HyperMotion Enables 3-Month Migration of 3,700 VMs for Mexican Public Sector
Due to significant changes in VMware's policies, the Mexican Public Sector has opted to migrate their service applications from VMware to Huawei Cloud Stack (HCS8.2) to enhance the stability of their government services.
Customer Background and Challenges
Due to significant changes in VMware's policies, the Mexican Public Sector has opted to migrate their service applications from VMware to Huawei Cloud Stack (HCS8.2) to enhance the stability of their government services.
To ensure the smooth execution of the overall data security plan, the client needed to migrate a large number of virtual machines in the shortest time possible with minimal disruption:
Large-Scale VM and Data Volume: The migration involved 3,700 virtual machines and over 150TB of data, requiring careful handling of a massive scale and complexity.
Short Migration Window: All migration tasks, including business analysis, data migration, and verification, had to be completed within a strict 3-month timeline.
Challenges from Aging Systems: A significant number of legacy systems posed compatibility challenges for most migration tools, with the added requirement of minimal downtime to avoid disruption to operations.
Solution
HyperMotion's Automated Integration with Huawei Cloud Stack (HCS) Enables Fast and Easy Large-Scale Batch Migrations:
Batch Rehost Migration: HyperBDR employed the efficient "Rehost" migration method, transferring hosts from VMware to Huawei Cloud in block data units. This approach enabled the migration to be completed within three months, meeting the client’s tight deadline.
Agentless VMware Migration: With no need to install an agent on each host, HyperBDR automatically retrieved VM information by calling VMware's interface, minimizing disruption to production systems.
Intelligent Driver Adaptation: HyperBDR's automated driver adaptation for different architectures ensured a smooth, hands-off migration without manual intervention, enhancing efficiency.
Three-Step Wizard Process: HyperBDR utilizes an intuitive 3-step wizard to streamline migration implementation, reducing complexity and enhancing efficiency while minimizing human error, ensuring smooth and fast deployment.
Customer Value
3700+ VM Migration: HyperBDR successfully migrated over 3,700 virtual machines, addressing compatibility and complexity issues typically encountered in large-scale migrations.
3-Month Platform Switching: The migration was completed within a stringent 3-month timeframe, meeting the client's deadlines and ensuring a smooth transition to the new platform.
100% Automation: The entire migration process was fully automated, reducing the need for manual intervention and significantly minimizing the risk of human error.
Zero Operations Impact: The migration process was executed with zero impact on the client’s ongoing operations, ensuring continuous business activity and no disruption to services.
