Project Overview

Founded in 1996, a real estate group has evolved into a prominent enterprise in China's real estate industry, with a coordinated development strategy encompassing real estate development, commercial operations and hotel management.

Digital transformation in traditional enterprises has been a hot topic in recent years, focused on enhancing efficiency and reducing costs. The group has embarked on its own journey toward intelligent digital systems, including ERP, OA and business management analytics platforms. With the explosive growth of data and the looming threat of disasters like ransomware, the group has raised its demands for data security and business continuity.

To achieve above-average levels of high availability and application protection, the group needed a more efficient disaster recovery solution to replace its previous on-premises backup services. Their primary goal was to maximize normal operation time and minimize downtime. In the event of a failure, systems, networks or applications should be back up within 30 minutes. The plan was to utilize the combination of a public cloud and HyperBDR disaster recovery solution to implement disaster recovery for certain business systems on Alibaba Cloud.

Customer Pain Points

1. Diverse Production Platform Systems with Complex Architectures

The group's diversified business portfolio requires disaster recovery for systems including but not limited to ERP and OA. Each business system involves various architectures such as CentOS 7, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2012 as well as VMware virtualization and hyper-converged virtualization. The high complexity of these business systems presents a challenge for disaster recovery.

2. Workloads Distributed Across Multiple Regions

The group's business spans across China, with projects in more than 40 cities, creating a nationwide presence with core regions like the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area and Central China. The extensive geographical reach makes it difficult to manage disaster recovery uniformly, posing challenges in ensuring the continuity and stability of the group's operations.

3. Lack of Highly Automated Cloud Disaster Recovery Tools

Aligned with the goal of comprehensive cloud adoption for their operations, the group seeks to reduce traditional IT equipment investments and operational costs. They plan to leverage public cloud resources for disaster recovery, but there are limited options in the market for automated tools that support disaster recovery on heterogeneous platforms.

Solution

01. Multi-Cloud, Multi-Scenario Disaster Recovery with Seamless Adaptation

HyperBDR offers a versatile disaster recovery solution for a wide range of business scenarios, including migrating from traditional IDC physical machines to virtualization in the cloud, transitioning from cloud environments to traditional IDCs, and enabling cross-disaster recovery between public clouds, private clouds and dedicated clouds. It achieves highly automated adaptation across heterogeneous platforms, seamlessly connecting disaster recovery without manual intervention.

02. Cross-Regional Disaster Recovery for Massive Data

Leveraging the scalability advantages of public clouds, HyperBDR unifies disaster recovery for dispersed workloads on the cloud, allowing for easy scalability based on demand. This approach ensures unified cloud-based disaster recovery management for workloads across different regions.

03. Exclusive "Boot in Cloud" Patent Technology

With cloud-based API integration, there's no need for a 1:1 pre-launch of instances in the cloud, further reducing disaster recovery costs. This technology enables one-click recovery of workloads in the cloud to an available state.

04. Agentless Mode for VMware Source Platform

HyperBDR supports an agentless approach for VMware source platforms, efficiently capturing data from upper-level virtual machines without intrusion, enabling batch synchronization of source data, reducing operational time for IT personnel, ensuring data privacy and security, and facilitating efficient cloud-based disaster recovery.

Customer Outcomes

1. Rapid Deployment of Disaster Recovery on Alibaba Cloud

HyperBDR's cloud disaster recovery tool empowers the group to efficiently migrate 60 host machines with 120 hard drives and 50 terabytes of data to Alibaba Cloud, easily meeting the group's disaster recovery performance objectives (RTO, RPO).

2. Strengthening the Foundation for Comprehensive Cloud Adoption

This project successfully migrates some of the group's workloads to Alibaba Cloud for disaster recovery, setting a benchmark for the group's future disaster recovery business planning. It achieves cost reduction and efficiency improvements while ensuring the sustainable and stable development of the group's operations.
